Welcome to 'No More Nails'

Thank you for choosing to attend our Study Day.

'No More Nails' was originally planned to be the FGDP's 2020 Study Day, but thanks to Covid-19 we have had to wait until 2021 to hold it. During lockdown, and officially in July 2021, the FGDP morphed into the College of General Dentistry. This was a huge change. We had a new address in London. New staff. New logo. New name.......

Valerie Silver

After almost thirty years the FGDP is dead! But long live CGDent!

So, here it is. The first Northern CGDent study day. We are very pleased to welcome James Field back to the northeast to share his prostho knowledge with us. 'No More Nails' is jam-packed with prosthodontic tips and advice that will make denture patients sing your praises! Use James' suggestions to improve the dentures you make and your prostho confidence will soar.

Seriously though, James is an engaging speaker and really has some useful denture advice to share with us. So, I know we are in for a day of excellent 'info-tainment'

We plan to hold our inaugural CGDent AGM during the lunch break and are excited because the new President of the College of General Dentistry, Abhi Pal will be here to speak to us.

But, as Covid-19 is still with us, even though you may be fully vaccinated and boosted, please do sanitise your hands throughout the day and wherever required please keep your masks on except when eating. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe.

Finally, we are very grateful to our sponsors who have helped make this Study Day possible. Please visit their stands during the breaks and chat to them.

Welcome from our President

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to this Northern Study Day delivered by the College of General Dentistry. I am thrilled to be present at this first ever face-to-face College Study Day.

Members and Fellows of the FGDP(UK) have now transferred their memberships to CGDent and we continue to grow our membership from across all dental professional groups. Our hard-working staff, led by Chief Executive Simon Thornton-Wood, and members of the College Council have been working to fulfil the goals and purpose of the College.

Abhi Pal

We will soon be launching our Career Pathways and Certified Membership Scheme, for which Professor Avi Banerjee chairs the Working Group. We plan to provide a pathway for the professional development of all dental professionals working in primary care from the time of registration through to acquisition of enhanced skills, with the support of College facilitators. The role of regional CGDent affiliate groups will be crucial in rolling out this unique programme and supporting colleagues who take part.

The FGDP(UK) guidelines and standards have come under the ownership of CGDent and we will continue to update them. We will be soon releasing Mentoring Guidelines in Implant Dentistry, which has been developed with the ADI.

Please can I remind members they have free access to Prodental CPD’s suite of on-line educational material. The College will also be providing regular webinars on their platform on a variety of topics.

I hope you all enjoy the day, and congratulations to the organisers.
